Tour Overview:

Discover the wonders of the seventh continent on this 12-day expedition cruise, starting in Argentina's capital, Buenos Aires, flying to Ushuaia and then onwards to Antarctica in the summer months. Explore Antarctica's wildlife, as we spot seals, penguin colonies and go whale watching against backdrops of staggering natural beauty. Join our Expedition Team aboard the Hurtigruten's MS Fridtjof Nansen as they deliver lectures and accompany landings while sharing their knowledge of glaciology, wildlife, climate change and polar exploration.

Together, we will marvel at colossal glaciers and icebergs on this incredible Antarctica expedition cruise. Experience nature's majesty as we navigate ever-changing icescapes on our hybrid-powered ship. Your expedition team will bring you close to your stunning surroundings on ice-cruising and land activities, and don't forget about the Antaractic wildlife! Enjoy this guided sightseeing tour of Buenos Aires' charming attractions. It's a city combining European flair and Latin American charm, mixed with the unmistakable beat of vibrant Argentina. Our coach will pick us up from our hotel to embark on a journey to explore this colorful lively city. We'll visit places that are full of contrast including Buenos Aire's aristocratic neighborhoods in the north, La Recoleta and the grave of Argentine icon Eva Perón, and the working-class districts all the while exploring the culture, the vibrancy and the flavors of South America.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Thursday, February 15, 2024: DEPARTURE

• We depart home on our overnight flights to Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Day 2: Friday, February 16, 2024: WELCOME TO ARGENTINA!

• Welcome to Buenos Aires! Upon arrival, transfer on own to our centrally located hotel on own to check in. An overnight stay in Buenos Aires is the ideal way to start our Antarctic adventure. Home to a proud and diverse community of porteños, or “people of the port”, this city is a sensuous fusion of fade European splendor and Latin American panache There are plenty of places to explore, including many parillas serving deliciously authentic Argentine steak, or maybe practicing your dance moves in the famous hometown of tango.
• This afternoon, choose to enjoy a group sightseeing tour of the city highlights (additional cost), including the Obelisk, the colorful neighborhood of La Boca where Tango rules, as well as La Recoleta, where Argentina icon Evita Peron lays at rest.
• Tonight, we gather together for a group welcome program, Kabbalat Shabbat and welcome dinner.

Overnight in Buenos Aires (D)

Day 3: Saturday, February 17, 2024: OUR VOYAGE BEGINS - ALL ABOARD!

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• Our adventure begins with an early morning flight to Ushuaia, where we will meet our hybrid-powered expedition ship MS Fridtjof Nansen, specifically designed to sustainable cruising in polar waters. The bustling port is the capital of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego province. Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Martial Glacier, Ushuaia view for the title of the world's southernmost city.
• After a briefing with our Expedition Team, we will have time to setting into our cabins and explore the comforts and amenities on board.
• Later, we join our Expedition Team for a delicious welcome dinner.

Days 4-5: Sunday-Monday, February 18-19, 2024: TWO DAY CROSSING THROUGH DRAKE PASSAGE

• Breakfast together aboard our ship each morning.
• On the two-day crossing through the Drake Passage, the Expedition Team will equip us with all we need to make the most of our polar expedition.
• Today, visit the onboard Science Center and find out what lies ahead. Listen to experts talk passionately about Antarctica's history, the science beneath the ice and the impact of climate change and plastic pollution. We will learn how to make our visit as safe and as sustainable as possible and about the Citizen Science projects that we can join.
• Enjoy daily lunch together in the Aune or Fredheim restaurants aboard our ship.
• As the anticipation builds towards our arrival at the Antarctica continent, we enjoy some relaxing time aboard the ship. Take an invigorating swim, enjoy a spa treatment or explore the vastness while on the lookout for icebergs, whales and albatrosses.
• We enjoy a private group cocktail party one evening and other special group activities throughout our journey.

Days 6-10, Tuesday-Saturday, February 20-24, 2024: ANTARCTICA IN ALL ITS NATURAL MAJESTY

• Breakfast together aboard our ship each morning.
• Nothing quite prepares you for it. Surrounded by looming glaciers and icebergs the size of floating cathedrals, Antarctica will fill you with wonder. Perhaps the most surprising part of Antarctica is the silence. It is a stillness that is broken ever so often by the locals - the wildlife. Whales begins to arrive in greater numbers by December and January. This is also when the first penguin chicks hatch and seeing the clumsy clumps of feathers run around is always a charming sight. February and March are the peak of whale watching opportunities when large amount of krill lure them to the area.
• We'll join the Expedition Team on landings and ice cruises, all included as part of our expedition. You may choose to go kayaking among the icebergs on an optional activity.
• We enjoy lunch together in the Aune or Fredheim restaurants aboard our ship.
• Back on board, the Expedition Team will continue their lectures, helping you grow in your insights of the frozen continent. Over five magical days, we will experience this amazing world in a way that will stay with us for a lifetime.
• In the evenings, we head to the Aune or Fredheim restaurant for dinner together and then join Best-Day Adventures for some fun group and ship wide activities.

Days 11-12, Sunday-Monday, February 25-26, 2024: RETURNING TO WARMER WATERS

• Breakfast aboard our ship each morning.
• Our exhilarating Antarctica cruise seems over before its begun. Even after five days, we will only have scratched the surface of all there is discover. It really is just the tip of the iceberg. Your head will likely still be a swirling kaleidoscope of special memories and new knowledge. If you have more questions, head to the Science Center and chat with the Expedition Team.
• As your mind tries to conjure up the magical Antarctic scenery, now could be a good time to sift through your photos and videos to recapture a sense of its magnitude. If the adrenaline is still coursing through you, a trip to the gym and sauna may help, or enjoy a few relaxing treatments in the Wellness Spa.
• Enjoy daily lunch and dinner together in the Aune or Fredheim restaurants aboard our ship.

Day 13: Tuesday, February 27, 2024: BACK TO BUENOS AIRES

• Breakfast together aboard our ship.
• Today, we arrive back in Ushuaia, where our 12-day expedition draws to a close. Choose first to join us on an optional hiking adventure (additional cost) here in Tierra del Fuego, Patagonia, the southernmost city in the world. From here, we take a charter flight back to Buenos Aires. As we leave this beautiful region behind, we take with us lasting memories of everything we have seen and done, the importance of these precious habitats and positive experiences of sustainable expedition travel.
• Upon arriving in Buenos Aires, we connect to our flight back to the United States.
