Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Tuesday, January 7, 2020: DEPARTURE

• We depart Los Angeles on our overnight flight to Israel.

Day 2: Wednesday, January 8, 2020: WELCOME TO ISRAEL!

• We arrive in Israel and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative.
• We travel to Jerusalem, stopping at the Haas Promenade to say the “Shehecheyanu” as we look out over the City of Gold for the first time.
• We check into our hotel and have time to relax and refresh before our welcome dinner this evening.

Day 3: Thursday, January 9, 2020: ANCIENT JERUSALEM

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• Today, we visit the Old City for a chance to discover the different living quarters. We begin in the Jewish quarter, with time for personal reflection at the Western Wall, followed by a tour of the Western Wall tunnels, where we discover the archaeological wonders that once remained untouched for centuries.
• We continue with a visit to the Arab market (shuk), then stroll along the Via Dolorosa to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Christian quarter.
• Enjoy the remainder of the afternoon and evening at leisure to discover Jerusalem and have dinner on own. We suggest visiting the Mamilla promeande, Ben Yehuda Street or Emek Refaim.

Day 4: Friday, January 10, 2020: A TASTE OF JERUSALEM

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• We begin our day at Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Holocaust, for an eye-opening experience as we tour the many moving exhibitions, including the Hall of Names and the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations.
• Next, we visit the famed Machane Yehuda, where we take in the sights, smells and sounds of this bustling marketplace and enjoy Israeli delicacies on our tasting tour.
• This afternoon, we participate in a dialogue entitled “The Labyrinth of Israeli Politics” with Professor Reuven Hazan of Hebrew University's Political Science department.
• We return to our hotel for time to relax and refresh.
• As the sun sets, we join together for Kabbalat Shabbat at Tzur Hadassah led by Rabbi Stacey Blank, followed by home hospitality Shabbat dinner with members of the community.

Day 5: Saturday, January 11, 2020: MASADA & THE DEAD SEA

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• We depart early this morning and travel south to the Dead Sea basin.
• Upon our arrival, we ascend Masada by cable car to view the remains of King Herod's palace, including the synagogue, walls and bathhouses, and hear the story of the Jewish Zealots' last stand against the Roman forces.
• We descend the mountain and head to the beach for lunch and an unsinkable swim in the healing, salty waters of the Dead Sea.
• This afternoon, we enjoy a short hike to the hidden waterfalls in the desert oasis of Ein Gedi.
• As we return to Jerusalem, we pass by the Qumran caves, the site where the Dead Sea scrolls were discovered.
• Evening at leisure and dinner on own.

Day 6: Sunday, January 12, 2020: THE BEAUTIFUL NORTH

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• We begin our day at the Megemeria School of Jewelry & Art. Here, we learn about the very special professional training and employment opportunities given to Ethiopian immigrants, facilitating their integration into Israeli society as proud and contributing citizens. We will meet program participants and hear amazing stories of their journeys to Israel. Megemeria means “genesis” in Amharic (the native language of Ethiopia) and offers its students the opportunity for a bright new beginning and a chance to realize their Zionist dream.
• We travel north and set out on an exciting jeep tour through the Golan Heights, passing former Syrian bunkers on the way to the top of Har Bental, where we take in the panoramic views reaching far into Syria.
• We continue to the Golan Winery for a behind-the-scenes tour and wine tasting in this picturesque setting.
• Later this afternoon, we travel to the Galilee to check into our kibbutz and refresh before dinner together this evening.
• After dinner, we meet with kibbutz members to learn about their unique lifestyle and the challenges and changes to their communal arrangements over the decades.

Day 7: Monday, January 13, 2020: NORTHERN EXPLORATION

• Breakfast at our kibbutz.
• Today, we visit the mystical city of Safed where we stroll through the cobblestone streets to view the ancient synagogues and shop in the artist's quarter.
• We travel west to Akko, where we visit the Crusader-era fortress and British prison as we learn about this historically important port. Time for lunch on own here.
• This afternoon, we join Makom Bagalil, an organization dedicated to peace for all people of the Galilee, for a session with Nir Topper. Our time together will include a meeting with leadership in a nearby Israeli-Arab village.
• We return to our kibbutz for free time to relax and enjoy the amenities.
• This evening, we join together for dinner at our kibbutz.

Day 8: Tuesday, January 14, 2020: MODERN ISRAEL

• Breakfast and check out of our kibbutz.
• We take part in tikkun olam at Project Leket, where we will collect leftover fruits and vegetables for those in need, fulfilling the mitzvah of gleaning the fields.
• We travel south along the Mediterranean border to Caesarea, the former Roman capital of the area, where we view the ancient theater, the aqueduct and the multi-media exhibitions.
• We continue to Tel Aviv to visit the cutting-edge Taglit Innovation Center and catch a glimpse into Israel's high-tech advances in science, medicine, security and space. We tour the exhibition and meet with one of Israel's aspiring entrepreneurs.
• We check into our hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure and dinner on own.

Day 9: Wednesday, January 15, 2020: JEWISH-ARAB CONFLICT

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• This morning, we meet with Retired IDF Colonel Miri Eisin, who has a political science background and was the official spokeswoman charged with explaining Israel's stance on the ongoing Israel-Arab conflict. We will hear about the current situation and engage in a dialogue.
• Next, we visit Old Jaffa for a co-existence tour as a Jewish and Arab tour guide lead us side by side to trace the different historical narratives as we explore the possibility of creating a common future and shared society.
• We travel to Beit Guvrin, where we participate in a hands-on archaeological dig, unearthing remnants from Israel's ancient past.
• Enjoy the evening at leisure to discover this metropolitan city and have dinner on own.

Day 10: Thursday, January 16, 2020: ARTISTIC TEL AVIV

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• This morning, we visit the Tel Aviv Museum of Art to explore Israel's largest collection of contemporary international artwork.
• We continue to the Rabin Center, where the spiraling exhibits lead us through the modern history of the state and broader world history through the prism of the life of one of Israel's most beloved leaders, Yitzhak Rabin.
• Enjoy the afternoon at leisure to discover Tel Aviv or realx at the beach on own.
• This evening, we check out of our hotel and join together for a festive farewell dinner, as we recall all that we have experienced on our journey.
• We transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for our overnight flight back to the United States, landing tomorrow morning.

Day 11: Friday, January 17, 2020: TEL AVIV TO EILAT

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• We transfer to the airport for our short flight to Eilat.
• Upon arrival, we transfer to our hotel to check in and enjoy the afternoon at leisure. Options for on own activities include: visiting the Underwater Aquarium, setting sail on a snorkeling cruise with barbeque lunch or relaxing on the shores of the Red Sea or at the hotel pool.
• Evening at leisure and dinner on own.

Overnight in Eilat

Day 12: Saturday, January 18, 2020: PETRA

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• This morning, we cross the border into Jordan for our day tour of Petra, the Red Rose City.
• In Petra, we explore the Nabatean City (as seen in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). We walk through the Siq and ancient temples, then discover the Treasury and Roman theater.
• On our way back to the border, we view Wadi Rum, a protected desert wilderness with sandstone mountains and natural arches.
• We return to our hotel in Eilat for a relaxing evening and dinner on own.

Day 13: Sunday, January 19, 2020: DEPARTURE

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• Enjoy the morning at leisure to relax.
• This afternoon, we check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport for our short flight back to Tel Aviv, connecting to our overnight flight back to the United States.

Day 14: Monday, January 20, 2020: WELCOME HOME!

• We arrive back in the United States this morning.
