Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Tuesday, March 26, 2019: DEPARTURE

• We depart the United States on our overnight flight to Israel.

Day 2: Wednesday, March 27, 2019: WELCOME TO ISRAEL!

• We arrive in Israel and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative. Welcome home!
• We acend to Jerusalem, stopping atop the Mt. of Olives upon arrival to say the “Shehecheyanu” as we look out over the City of Gold. Here, we take part in a short ceremony at the grave of Hadassah's visionary founder, Henrietta Szold.
• We check into our hotel and refresh.
• This evening, we enjoy a welcome dinner together with Youth Aliyah friends and graduates, including representatives from the youth villages, as we mark our first night together in Israel.

Day 3: Thursday, March 28, 2019: MODERN FOUNDATIONS

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• We begin our day at the Knesset, Israel's Parliament building, where we meet with a member of the Knesset to learn about youth and educational initiatives in Israel.
• We visit Ein Kerem Hadassah Hospital with Graduates of Youth Aliyah, including a stop at the Mother and Child Pavilion. We also visit the Sarah Wetsman Davidson tower, featuring the most modern hospital facilities in the region, and visit the synagogue featuring the famed Chagall windows.
• Next, a chef leads us through Machane Yehuda for a sensual immersion, engaging with the vibrant colors, smells and flavors that will be found in this bustling marketplace. We wander through the pyramids of spices, bright-colored exotic vegetables, nuts, olives, and delicious halva creations. Our chef will introduce us to the most characteristic ingredients of the local cuisine and to the Israeli food habits, while we prepare dinner together with our purchases.
• After dinner, we stroll through the market again, this time to view the graffiti on the closed shutter stall doors.

Day 4: Friday, March 29, 2019: REMEMBRANCE/A YOUTH ALIYAH GRAD SHABBAT
• Breakfast at our hotel.
• This morning, we meet with Miriam Peretz, to hear about life as the mother of two fallen IDF soldiers and learn how she was able to make something good out of something terrible. Miriam has become a public speaker, teaching soldiers, bereaved families, parents of incoming IDF soldiers and Jews around the world about the importance of her sons giving their lives to defend Israel.
• Next, we visit Mt. Herzl, Jerusalem's military cemetery, we pay our respects at the gravesites of Miriam Peretz's sons, as well as those of some of Israel's leaders, including Theodore Herzl, Golda Meir, Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres. We also visit the Remembrance Hall built to honor those who gave their lives fighting for Israel.
• Our next stop is Yad Vashem, Israel's memorial to the Holocaust, for an eye-opening experience, as we view the many moving exhibitions focusing on art during the Holocaust with children's drawings of that time. We complete our visit with a memorial ceremony at the Valley of the Communities.
• As the sun begins to set, we join together to welcome Shabbat at the Kotel with the people of Jerusalem, followed by Shabbat dinner with graduates of youth aliyah villages that will share their experiences from the past and where they are now.

Day 5: Saturday, March 30, 2019: SHABBAT SHALOM!

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• Spend the morning at leisure attending Shabbat services on own or relaxing.
• This afternoon, we enjoy a stroll through the nearby neighborhoods led by our graduates and guide.
• We gather as Shabbat ends for Havdalah with Hadassah friends and Youth Aliyah graduates.
• Enjoy an evening at leisure to discover Jerusalem and have dinner on own as the city comes back to life as Shabbat ends.

Day 6: Sunday, March 31, 2019: ESHKOL AND THE SOUTH

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• We drive south to the Eshkol Regional Center for a security briefing at the Command Center. We meet local residents at their homes for a chance to hear their stories, then drive along the border and see just how close the Hamas tunnels were found to residential areas. Next, we receive a briefing about Hamas and the current situation from regional authorities.
• Our next stop is at the “Salad Trail,” where we will participate in a unique hands-on agricultural tour and witness how Israeli innovation is literally making the desert bloom with crops grown out of some of the most inhospitable sands imaginable. We will pick and taste fruits and vegetables straight from the kibbutz's self-picking farm, and encounter flying strawberries, tiny orange orchards, racing pigeons and herbal gardens. We complete our visit with a delicious lunch.
• This afternoon, we visit the Be'er Sheva River Park, a spectacular site co-sponsored by JNF and Hadassah. Here, we learn how the project transformed this site into the warm and welcoming place it is today.
• We gain a deeper understanding of the life of the Bedouin in the Negev during a tour of the city of Rahat, including meetings with Deputy Mayor, Dr. Amer al-Huzayl and Dr. Sarab Abu Rabia-Quieder of Ben Gurion University. We will address the challenges facing the Bedouin townships and we will be hosted by Bedouin families with children now learning in Hadassah's Meir Shfeya youth village.
• We return to Jerusalem later this afternoon for an evening at leisure and dinner on own.

Day 7: Monday, April 1, 2019: MEIR SHFEYA AND TSFAT

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• We depart early this morning to Hadassah's Meir Shfeya Youth Village, where we join the kids at a morning activity on the farm. We'll visit the winery, then meet with the kids and staff and join them for lunch as part of this inspiring visit!
• We travel north to the mystical city of Safed, the center of Kabbalah study and practice. Here, we visit the ancient synagogues and have time to shop among the many artist studios and galleries, including a visit to a calligraphy gallery with a chance to meet the artist.
• We continue to the Galilee to check into our kibbutz and refresh before dinner together this evening.

Day 8: Tuesday, April 2, 2019: MALKIA AND THE GOLAN

• Breakfast at our kibbutz.
• We drive along the Israeli-Lebanese border, with views into Lebanon, stopping at Kibbutz Malkia, a strategic overlook. Here, we will meet with Eitan Oren, the kibbutz member in charge of security. He is a proud graduate of Meir Shfeya from 1979. He will take us on a personal tour of history in the region and will arrange for us to meet one of the IDF units on the border. We'll join their security personnel to learn about the steps they take to protect this small frontier community.
• Next, we drive up to the Golan Heights, where we visit a Druze village for lunch and home hospitality, as we learn about their unique lifestyle and culture.
• This afternoon, we take in the views stretching far into Syria from atop Har Bental.
• We enjoy a chocolate workshop at Ein Zivan's DeKarina Chocolate Factory, one of Israel's top chocolatiers.
• We return to our kibbutz for dinner together this evening.

Day 9: Wednesday, April 3, 2019: HAIFA AND NEURIM

• Breakfast and check out of our kibbutz.
• Today, we visit Haifa to meet with one of our youth village graduates, who is now a social worker. We'll see firsthand how she “pays it forward” every day.
• Our next stop is at the Ramat Hadassah Youth Village, where we participate in the new Torah dedication ceremony.
• Next, we stop at Neurim Youth Village, where we join the students in an activity at the sports center, followed by lunch together.
• We travel south to Tel Aviv and complete our day in Old Jaffa, where we stroll through the cobblestone alleyways to see the crafts in the artist's colony. We'll visit the ancient port and take in the views of the sea, including free time for shopping.
• We check into our hotel, then set out for dinner on our own.

Day 10: Thursday, April 4, 2019: TEL AVIV/DEPARTURE

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• This morning, we visit Independence Hall, the site of the signing of Israel's Declaration of Independence in 1948.
• At the cutting-edge Taglit Innovation Center, we catch a glimpse into Israel's high-tech advances in the fields of science, medicine, security and space. We visit the interactive exhibitions and continue with a meeting with one of Israel's innovative entrepreneurs.
• Free time for last minute shopping or exploration on own.
• We join together for a festive farewell dinner party at our hotel with children and staff from the youth villages.
• We check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport this evening for our overnight flight back to the United States.

Day 11: Friday, April 5, 2019: ARRIVAL HOME

• We arrive back in the United States this morning.
