Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Sunday, May 14, 2023: DEPARTURE

• We depart on our overnight flight to Israel.

Day 2: Monday, May 15, 2023: WELCOME TO ISRAEL!

• Shalom and Bruchim Habaim—welcome to Israel! Upon arrival, we are met by an Ayelet Tours representative and begin our adventure.
• We ascend to Jerusalem, stopping atop the Haas Promenade to say a special Shehecheyanu blessing as we look out over the panorama of the City of Gold for the first time together.
• We check into our hotel and have a chance to refresh.
• As evening falls, we join together for a welcome dinner in a private room at our hotel, as we look forward to our inspirational journey ahead.

Overnight in Jerusalem

Day 3: Tuesday, May 16, 2023: PAVING THE WAY TO INDEPENDENCE

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• We begin our journey at Israel Elwyn's Jerusalem Weinberg Retiree Center. While here, we enjoy a tour of the facility and a “TED Talk” type of presentation by a leading professional in our field.
• Time for lunch on your own.
• After lunch, we gain insight into Israel Elwyn's “Supported Living Services Program” founded in 1991 to provide living arrangements and support for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program provides supported apartments in Jerusalem and Herzliya.
• We head to the Sabbah Center for a tour of Israel Elwyn's globally known “Katie Manson Sensory Garden”.
• Later this afternoon, we will hold a Board meeting for the organization (4pm Israel time). Non-board trip participants are welcome to join the meeting or will be dropped off at the hotel for time at leisure.
• Dinner together included at a nearby restaurant.

Overnight in Jerusalem

Day 4: Wednesday, May 17, 2023: THE MANY MOVING PARTS OF ISRAEL ELWYN

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• This morning, we depart Jerusalem and drive to Tel Aviv, where we visit an IDF base located in Central Israel. Here we'll learn about Israel Elwyn's program for IDF soldiers with disabilities and how IE supports them as they realize their dream of serving in the military like their peers.
• Next, we head to Ra'anana for a visit to IE's renovated Adult Day Center, where adults 21 and older with disabilities are provided with support and opportunities for social encounters and activities to enhance social skills in order to live independent lives.
• We enjoy a light lunch together in Ra'anana.
• Continue to Herzliya to see Israel Elwyn's newly opened Fulfillment Center to learn about their programs for young adults with autism.
• We travel north to Haifa and check into our hotel, followed by an evening at leisure and dinner on own.

Day 5: Thursday, May 18, 2023: HI-TECH HAIFA

• Breakfast at our hotel. Those flying out this evening will check out of our hotel.
• We begin our day in Karmiel for a tour of Israel Elwyn's new George and Irina Schaeffer Early Intervention Center for children six months to three years of age. Here, a team of caring professionals provide rehabilitation services and comprehensive care to children with developmental delays and/or autism to set them up for a bright future.
• Next, we drive to Usafiya for a visit to Israel Elwyn's Druze Village Adult Center to learn about the programs they offer, followed by an authentic Kosher Druze lunch and home hospitality.
• We continue with a visit to the University of Haifa, the largest research university in northern Israel and home to thousands of students with a wide range of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.  Here, we meet with students from the medical school who have volunteered with service recipients from IE's various programs OR
• We meet with professors and students at Technion, Israel's premier technological university, for a glimpse into the cutting-edge developments which have helped make Israel the technology powerhouse it is today. Israel Elwyn operates The Shoval (Equal in Education) Program in collaboration with the Technion. The Shoval Program enables individuals with disabilities to enter institutions of higher education and learn a variety of academic subjects, while participating in the overall academic experience with students without disabilities.
• This evening, we enjoy dinner together at a nearby restaurant.
• For those departing, we transfer to Ben Gurion Airport for our overnight flights, landing tomorrow morning.

Day 6: Friday, May 19, 2023: THE CITY OF GOLD

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• Today, we depart Haifa and travel north along the beautiful Mediterranean coast to the Crusader port of Akko, touring the massive Hospitaller Fortress and Knights' Hall that stood here. We will also walk through the secret tunnel to the sea and wander through the market to discover the bounty of spices, nuts, olives, fish and sweet and savory treats.
• Our next stop is at Rosh Hanikra, where we discover the chalk cliff grottoes that have been carved out by the Mediterranean waters over many years.
• This afternoon, we return to Jerusalem to honor “Yom Yerushalayim” as the day closes and check into our hotel to relax and refresh.
• As the sun begins to set, we join together for a Shabbat dinner at our hotel.

Day 7: Saturday, May 20, 2023: SHABBAT SHALOM!

• Breakfast at our hotel.
• Shabbat Shalom! It wouldn't be a visit to Israel without seeing some of the best sites in Jerusalem, with something new even for return visitors! This morning, we head to the Old City for a walking tour of the different quarters, and from a different perspective than you've had in the past.
• Next, we tour the Tower of David Museum, where Jerusalem's 4,000-year history is told through virtual and augmented reality options. We visit both their current exhibitions and their Innovation Lab, which is developing cutting-edge technologies to tell an old story in a very new way.
• We continue with a tour of the Citadel moat and the “Kishle” in the Tower of David Museum. We explore the underground military complex and prison compound from the 19th century, which includes newly discovered archaeological evidence on the history of Jerusalem since the First Temple.
• The remainder of the afternoon and evening are at leisure to relax or explore the city on own.

Day 8: Sunday, May 21, 2023: JERUSALEM ABOVE AND BELOW

• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• Our first stop today is Ir David, the City of David, where we meet with a site archeologist and learn about the latest site findings and what they have revealed.
• We return to the Old City and head underground to tour the Western Wall tunnels, for an opportunity to discover the many layers of Jerusalem's history, passing through grand building projects from ancient Rome through the modern day. New discoveries are made here regularly, and even those that have been in Israel just a few years ago will be astounded at the recent discoveries!
• We continue to Machane Yehuda open-air market and enjoy a tasting tour. This colorful market features a mix of vendors selling their produce as well as trendy cafes and restaurants, where we will enjoy a delicious falafel lunch.
• Later, we visit with a local artist in their gallery for a personal encounter with Jerusalem's inspiring art scene.
• This evening, we enjoy a festive farewell dinner while reminiscing about our journey through Israel together and the positive impact made by Israel Elwyn.
• We transfer to the airport for our overnight flights back to the United States.

Day 9: Monday, May 22, 2023: WELCOME HOME!

• We arrive back in the United States this morning.
