Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Thursday, Feburay 13, 2020: DEPARTURE

• We depart the United States on our overnight flight to Prague.

Day 2: Friday, Feburary 14, 2020: WELCOME TO PRAGUE!

• We arrive in Prague and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative.
• We begin our day with a visit to the Astronomical Clock, and if the time is just right (on the hour), we will see the procession of the Twelve Apostles set into motion, and the stereotyped Jewish man with his bag of money, representing avarice.
• We continue to the Town Square to see the Statue of the Czech revolutionary, Jan Hus, who reformed the Czech universities and inspired the Hussites, who rebelled against Catholic doctrine.
• We check into our hotel.
• Tonight, as the sun sets, we join the local Reform community Bejt Praha for Shabbat services followed by Shabbat dinner together.

Day 3: Saturday, February 15, 2020: EXPLORING PRAGUE


• Breakfast at our hotel.
• We begin the day with Shabbat services at the Bejt Simcha synagouge followed by Shabbat lunch with members of the community.
• We continue to the Petrin Lookout Tower, we take in the panoramic views of the city.
• Next, we enjoy a tour of Golden Prague at the 1,000-year-old Hradcany Castle. We also visit St. Vitus' Cathedral, the largest and most important church in the Czech Republic. We stroll down the Golden Lane, consisting of small brightly painted houses, souvenir shops and a museum of medieval armory as our guide tells us stories about Franz Kafka, the famous Jewish author who lived in a home at the bottom of the hill with his sister for a short period of time.
• We stop to taste the famous trdelník, a pastry made from rolled dough that is grilled, then topped with a mixture of sugar and walnuts.
• Tonight, we visit the Hagibor Social Care Facility to participate in tikkun olam, visit with the residents there and join them for Havdallah.
• We enjoy dinner together this evening.

Day 4: Sunday, February 16, 2020: JEWISH PRAGUE


• Breakfast at our hotel.
• This morning, we cross the Vltava River over the famous Charles Bridge, stopping to see the Crucifix and Calvary Statue, an example of medieval European anti-Semitism.
• Our tour continues in the Josefov, Prague's Jewish town, where we see the Old Town Hall, the Alt-Neu Synagogue, the Pinkas Synagogue, the Maisel Synagogue, the Jewish cemetery and the State Jewish Museum. The area, site of the former Jewish ghetto of Prague, offers a unique window into the past.
• Our final stop today is at the stunningly beautiful Spanish Synagogue, site of the first Reform synagogue in Prague.
• Enjoy free time before we gather for dinner together at a local restaurant.
• After dinner, we enjoy a unique theatrical experience at the Black Light Theatre.

Day 5: Monday, February 17, 2020: TEREZIN


• Breakfast at our hotel.
• Today, we travel to Terezin, the former "model" Nazi concentration camp. We visit the prison fortress and the Jewish cemetery, the hidden synagogue and the museum filled with the artwork of former prisoners. We stop by the memorial monument and pass through the town itself. We'll also hear stories and see photos of some of the great rabbis imprisoned here, including Leo Baeck and Regina Jonas, the first woman ordained a rabbi.
• We enjoy a boxed lunch en route.
• Before returning, we stop for a special reflection on the 15,000 children imprisoned here.
• We return to Prague for a discussion about the day, followed a festive farewell dinner together, remembering all that we have experienced on our journey.

Day 6: Tuesday, February 18, 2020: DEPARTURE


• Breakfast and check out of our hotel.
• We transfer to the airport for our flight back to the United States, landing later today.
